However, the main problem with both Daz and Poser, and not really mentioned here, is that a great many of the models bought in their content stores, and for which this asset is of use, cannot be used for 3D games. Reallusion is much better for lipsyncing but iClone is not cheap. Poser did use the Daz lipsyncing kit at one stage and it took some effort and time to achieve results You're not going to get the kind of results shown by the new mixamo plugin but then it's a one time purchase and not an annual extortion. Not sure how great the lipsyncing is now. The couple of books I read were pretty good.

Poser has quite a few books available at amazon, it is a fairly mature piece of software and there is no problem getting tutorials. Can't speak for the current poser one but the poser I used which is version 7 did use a lot of the daz plugins to provide lip syncing and decimation which is why I mention Daz here. The Daz decimator I found hard to use and not so great. Generally this software is used for 2D rendering, many professional artists use poser and daz figures as background distance filler, they're high poly and are fairly good detail, but only much use to fill crowds at a distance.

That posting basically said that the next day (Thursday) a new update to the software (version 11.I've used both Poser and Daz. On Wednesday I stumbled across the official posting regarding this development. I had heard murmurings about this about a week prior (one of my fans actually mentioned it), but it didn't really register with me. On Wednesday, September 18, I discovered that Poser had been sold by SmithMicro to Bondware. They generally did not respond well to customer feedback, and they did a terrible job of letting people know what was happening with the software.Īnd this most recent development is a prime example of that. Or maybe it's better to say that they did not do a good job of managing their customer base. In my personal opinion, SmithMicro has done a terrible job of managing the software. The latest Poser DramaSo you may or may not be aware of this, but the Poser software that I use to create my comics was recently purchased by a company called Bondware. MrPhoenyxx posted a Journal entry today which you also might find useful: I am currently thinking about switching to ✽AZ Studio«. is there a guarantee they won't do it again? Or after the company stopped operating (because of bankruptcy or whatever) is there a guarantee my PAID VERSION of Poser continues to operate? Answer: No!Īside form the fact an update to a new version of Poser is always a major task (backup, restore, set up all the libraries, etc.). Let's say so: After the switch to the new Poser 11.2 and the Bondware-License-system. Which in turn means: When those server are shutting down for whatever reason (for example Smith Micro ceased to exist) my PAYED (!) version of Poser also stops working.Īnd this for a rather expensive product which also have a FREE alternative on the market (namely ✽AZ Studio«) with a WAY BETTER rendering engine. OK.īut more important (a fact I wasn't aware off): Every single time I started Poser 11 it called home to the Smith-Micro-server and checked my license.

It's totally out of my experience why that haven't changed their license system transparent to the old one (answer: probably because when the new company Bondware acquired Smith Micro some time ago, no-one is there anymore who knows how the old license system technically works). OK, at least they don't tell any bullshit but admit they have changed something.

Here's the link to the page:īy reading through the page the important thing is this:īut the main reason for the update is the depreciation of Smith Micro's licensing system and implementation of Bondware's licensing management for versions above Poser 10 (Poser 2014 Game Dev, Poser 11, and Poser Pro 11). Then I remember I got an eMail some days ago stating I need to update to »Poser 11.2« or otherwise my version »may not work« and »you must update.«. The grace period for activating this product has expired. By starting it I simply get a message saying:
